The Melrose Library is excited to present a free Nature Program that will visit each library location. The theme of these programs will be sea turtles. Carole Mackey of the Audubon Society will present these nature explorations. One thousand years ago, Carole earned a BA at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois with a major in English and a minor in Math and then obtained teaching certification K through 12. After graduation, she taught Freshman English, Algebra and Essential Math for two years and left the classroom to begin her family. Each of her programs involves presentation of subject matter by various means--puppets, films, storybooks, slides, questions and answers, pictures/posters--crafts, and games. Though she does not have all of her props in Florida, Carole still feels enthusiastic to present informative and interesting nature programs on sea turtles, owls, bats, spiders, frogs, wolves, skunks, and raccoons.

Short on time? Want to make food at home quicker than a fast food line? Want to make them
healthy? Stop by the Putnam County Library System this month! We're going to show you how to make Quick, Healthy Meals and Snacks! The library is partnering with the University of
Florida IFAS Extension Office to host Eat Healthy, Be Active - a series of six fun, interactive
workshops designed to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce the risk of obesity and chronic
disease. These workshops will run April through September at all five branches of the Putnam County Library System. This month: Learn how to stock your pantry, prepare healthy meals quickly (including some great slow cooker recipes), and make healthier choices while eating out. "These workshops are for people who are busy, maybe on a limited budget, and want some more information about the food buy so they can make wiser and healthier choices," said
Wendy Lynch, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent with UF-IFAS (Putnam County Extension).
These USDA-developed workshops are about eating healthier and putting more activity in your
daily life. They teach individuals how to make small changes like reducing sugar, salt, fats, and calories. Combined with exercise, that adds up to improved health. "The library strives to promote literacy in all its forms. Limited health literacy can lead to poor health and higher health care costs," said Jeremy Yates, Special Projects Coordinator at the Putnam County Library Headquarters. These tips and recipes, backed by the science of the Dietary and Physical Activity Guidelines, will help every member of the family maintain a healthy weight and prevent disease. Each community workshop lasts approximately one hour. Workshops include handouts, activities, videos, and tips to help adults with children make healthier, yet budget-friendly choices for their family. For more information, contact Jeremy Yates at the Headquarters Library (Palatka) or visit the library's website: http://funinputnam.com. April 30th from 2-3 at theCrescent City Library
