2019 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
EDUCATION PROGRAM – MONDAY – FRIDAY, September 23 – 27; 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Coordinated with the Putnam County School System second grade classes
The St. Johns River Center will be the headquarters for the educational program. All 800 second graders in Putnam
County will be invited to their first visit to the St. Johns River Center.
Set-up for each day begins at 8:30 AM and take-down will be complete by 3:00 PM. Students will be on-site from 10:00
AM until 2:00 PM. The following activities will be included:
Three large tents will be placed in front of the River Center – two to house living history exhibits and actors and
one for lunch shelter for the students.
A short river boat ride on the Pride of Palatka
The St. Johns Riverkeeper will present their Enviroscape activity
The Long Warrior will explain about native Americans in the 18 th Century and about Bartram
Job Wiggens – European trader and Bartram guide will share about old Florida
Billy Bartram will share his naturalist view of Florida
SJRWMD will share a microinvertibrate lab
The St. Johns River Center will guide students through the I SPY activities

Family Fun Heart Health 5K Walk/Run – 7:30 AM Registration / 8:00 AM Race starting at Riverfront Park
(Conducted by the Florida Department of Health in Putnam County)
St. Johns River Bartram Frolic on the Riverfront – 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM – Includes the following:
Passport to the Past – The St. Johns River Center will host an educational activity for school-aged youth visiting
ten education stations and living historians to learn about our river and its history. Those completing the activity
will be rewarded. This is great for the whole family. Register near the St. Johns River Center.
Living History on the Riverfront – Meet William Bartram, the Long Warrior “King of the Seminoles”, Bartram’s
guide and European trader Job Wiggens , Ft. Mose militia and families, and 18th Century residents of Florida.
Food by local Civic Clubs, Nature-based Vendors, Demonstrations and Environmental Groups – 30 booths of
every sort along the riverfront and St. Johns Avenue.
Tales of the St. Johns River will be held in the River Center. This will be a schedule of storytellers with tales of
the St. Johns River from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Pride of Palatka Guided River Boat Tours – 11:30 St. Johns Riverkeeper Cruise
2:00 Bartram National Recreation Trail Cruise; Reservations for all cruises are necessary – see website.
Kayaking Tours – We will offer kayaking from the riverfront. Reservations and details on the website.
Biking Tours – We will offer a guided bicycle ride of historic home and murals from the riverfront – Reservations and details on the website.
Pontoon boat tours will be available from the floating docks by NORTHSTAR CHARTERS 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Bartram Sunset Wine Cruise – 5:00PM – 7:00 PM – Reservations for all cruises are necessary.
Revitalized Historic Palatka Wine Stroll – 5:00 PM– 9:00 PM – in the 300 block of St. Johns Avenue. Music, frolicking, food and beverages.
SUNDAY ACTIVITIES – September 29, 2018 – All registration and reservation information is available at http://bartram.putnam-fl.com
Bartram Stroll – 8:00 AM Sunday morning we will host two Bartram strolls featuring his spiritual views about
nature. One will be on the riverfront in Palatka and the other at Mount Royal near Welaka.
Mount Royal Hike – 8:30 AM we will host a 3-mile hike from the Welaka State Forest fire tower to the Mount
Royal National Historic site. A Quaker Friend will be the speaker at Mt. Royal. Reservations recommended.
Mount Royal Kayak Tour – 8:30 AM – 1:00PM – A tour of the Mount Royal National Historic site. The paddle
begins at the Drayton Island ferry landing and paddles 3.5 miles to Mount Royal. A Quaker Friend will be the speaker at Mt. Royal. Reservations required.
Bartram Art Show by the Arts Council of Greater Palatka – September 5 – September 29.
Open house will be at the Larimer Arts Center September 20th 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM followed by concert
