Readers Repertory, Putnam County’s unique theater company, announces that Steel Magnolias, by
Robert Harling will be presented on Sunday, January 27. The play will be performed in the company’s
home at First Presbyterian Church of Palatka’s Westminster Hall (126 S. 2 nd St. Palatka, FL 32177) at 2:30
PM. Tickets are $5.00 at the door, cash only. The first 45 people to purchase tickets will receive a
souvenir packet of tissues.
“Readers Repertory strives to present the best of theater in a way that emphasizes the author’s words
over, staging, costumes, props and other accouterments of traditional theater,” said Stephen Crowley,
the director of Steel Magnolias and one of the show’s producers. He continued: “By relying on the
author’s words presented by the actors from their scripts, the audience is drawn into the action in a
unique and powerful way. It allows them to create images in their minds that are not limited by physical
Steel Magnolias is the bittersweet story of life in a small town acted out among the visitors to Truvy’s
beauty salon. Best friends, these women share the struggles of their lives with wit, humor, sadness and
grief all the while continuing to be friends and each other’s support group. Unlike the movie, this story is
told only by the women as they visit Truvy’s. It is a story that has stood the test of time and continues to
reach out to us today.
The all-female cast includes veterans of the Putnam County theater scene such as Martha Pace, Ann
Cameron, Evelyn Lynam, and Roberta Crisson. Newcomers to Readers Repertory Hannah Syler and
Cassidy Cushman round out the cast of talented women.
