RICKY BYBEE

Director of Ministries

About Me

Ricky has been an on-air personality at Hope FM since October 2014. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1978 and retired after 25 years. He was working in naval and commercial ship repair as a project manager when he answered the call to ministry. He now serves as the Associate Pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, Chaplain at Putnam Community Medical Center, Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, Solantic Care Center, Vintage Care, KIVA, and Lakewood rehabilitation facilities performing prayer vigils and visitations.

Ricky is a member of the Putnam County Ministerial Association and Chamber of Commerce. He has been a member of the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home Family for more than nine years serving as a funeral assistant, veterans’ advocate, and orator. He enjoys helping people, praying for people and serving the community. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, raising birds, and spending time with family.

Along with his wife, Jo, he started the Gray Goose Game Bird Farm to honor the memory of her father, Richard Amorese, who was an avid hunter and duck guide. He and his wife reside in East Palatka with their daughter Amanda. They have the privilege of raising four grandchildren in their home; Rialynne, Emma, Kinsleigh and Kolton bring them great joy. In 2020, Ricky and Jo celebrated 25 years of marriage.

My Job

I spend a lot of time talking to and praying for people. I also have a daily devotional that you can see on our blog. You can hear my show weekdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Fun Fact

I was 4-9” tall when I graduated from high school. I ate a few pounds of bananas to make the US Navy minimum weight requirement only moments before the official weigh-in, I still had a mouthful of banana when I hit the scales.

Favorite Bible Verse

Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God”

We are commanded to “be still” in this verse.  This spiritual calm, God commands!  So as our world seems to crumble around us, the call from Scripture is don’t flinch in faith in God. Stand still—not because of a self-made confidence, not because you are the most composed person in the face of disaster, not because you’ve seen it all. Be still because of what you know about God. It is God’s past that provides calm for our future. Know that He is God! Know it, not merely intellectually, but practically, spiritually, and emotionally. It tells me that even if I am the last person standing, be still.

When not on the radio, you’ll find me

Praying for folks in the hospital, nursing homes, hospice facility or working with the bereaved. Working in my home church. Then home for some family love where I am blessed to be able to spend time with the grandchildren.

Favorite Hope FM Song

“Keep Making Me” – The Sidewalk Prophets

That song is the “soundtrack” of my personal walk with Christ. Being so focused on Him that He was fixing the brokenness in me, even when I didn’t want it, or I wasn’t looking.  It’s important to remember that in God’s time, things will happen. If you can be fully trusting and loving Him in those moments of loneliness, emptiness and brokenness you are going to be greatly, greatly rewarded. Not monetarily or emotionally, but spiritually!

Favorite Food

I am a meat and potatoes guy. A great steak, medium rare, and a loaded baked potato with a side of green beans with some ham in it.
