From Private Letters to Public Hope

Some of the sweetest people you'll ever meet are carrying burdens you would never know about. That's how I think of Laura Evans.

Laura has been a faithful Hope FM listener for years, and every interaction I've had with her has left me encouraged. She has such a kind spirit, a gentle heart, and a joy that naturally points people to Jesus.

What I didn't know for a long time was that behind that beautiful smile is a story of unimaginable loss.Laura experienced the heartbreaking death of her son by suicide—a grief no parent should ever have to endure.

In the days and months that followed, she began writing letters to her son. Those letters became a way to pour out her heart, wrestle with difficult questions, process her grief, and cling to God's promises when life didn't make sense.

Now, years later, God has transformed those deeply personal letters into a book that will help others who are walking through their own seasons of loss.

Letters to My Son: Healing After Tragedy is more than a memoir. It's a compassionate companion for anyone grieving the loss of someone they love. Along with Laura's heartfelt story, the book includes journaling opportunities, prayer prompts, and biblical encouragement to gently guide readers toward hope and healing.

I recently had the privilege of sitting down with Laura to talk about her journey. Our conversation wasn't just about the book—it was about God's faithfulness in the middle of heartbreak.

We also talked about something so many of us wonder: What do you say to someone who is grieving? Laura shares thoughtful, grace-filled advice about words that can comfort and ways we can simply be present for those carrying deep sorrow.

Whether you've experienced a tragic loss yourself, know someone who has, or simply want to learn how to better love people who are hurting, I believe this conversation will encourage you.

I hope you'll take a few minutes to watch the interview. Then, if you know someone who could use this message of hope—or if that someone is you—I encourage you to pick up a copy of Letters to My Son: Healing After Tragedy.

God doesn't waste our pain. Through Laura's willingness to share her story, He is bringing comfort, hope, and healing to others who need it most.

Thank you, Laura, for your courage, your honesty, and for allowing God to use your story to remind us that even in our darkest valleys, He is still with us.
