From School Supplies to a Fresh Start

Looking around the office supply store at the sale on school supplies*, I came across book covers made of stretchy fabric in bright colors. Back in my school days the book covers were brown paper bags cut to fit and then decorated with stickers and markers. Of course this was way back before they ever asked the question “paper or plastic?” so we all seemed to have a ready supply of paper grocery bags!

The reason we need book covers is because those same books are used each year for new sets of students and they tend to get worn out! Simply cover it up and it looks fantastic.
Sometimes we’re like that old book. We may look okay on the outside but be worn out on the inside. I’m grateful for God’s Word that promises us that this life is not all there is, and that when I’m feeling overwhelmed by the here and now, I can find a fresh start and hope in Him.
But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” Lamentations 3:21-24
*I hope you'll consider giving to our school supply drive this month!
