If I had known how heavy it would be...

I've got a lot on my plate. I've got 4 kids that run in all different directions most days. Our son plays travel ball and, although it's a big commitment, we love supporting him. Part of the joy of tournaments is that sometimes you have very early games. Last Saturday, Jad's team had to be at the ballpark by 7:30 in preparation for their 8:30 game.

The game was all the way in Jacksonville Beach so it required leaving the house by 6:15. We've got a pretty good system going where my husband takes him to the early call time and I get to bring the rest of the kids and leave later in the morning.

Why am I sharing all this with you? Well, something happened this last Saturday that stopped me in my tracks and it's all I've been able to think about since.

In getting ready to leave with my little girls I was charged with loading up the rest of the needed items in the car. Something essential when you've got a lot of kiddos to entertain is a cooler filled with snacks for the day.

Recently, my husband bought me a fancy cooler. It's much bigger and way more durable than our last one. The only problem is... It's heavier too!

After piling it full of our favorite snacks and sports drinks, I realized that I was the only one there to put it in the car! After realizing I had no choice, I took a deep breath and squatted down to grab the cooler. I used my best "lift from the legs" stance and hoisted the cooler into the car. I immediately had the thought, "If I had known how heavy this was, I never would have picked it up!".

If I had felt how heavy this fully loaded down cooler was before I attempted to pick it up I would have assumed it was way too heavy and there was no way I could lift it.

I was immediately struck by this truth... Sometimes God doesn't reveal our future to us because if we knew how heavy it was going to be we would never want to walk through it.

That old adage "God won't give you more than you can handle" is a lie from the pit of hell. That phrase is nowhere in the Bible. God will allow heavy things that are beyond our capability... but not beyond His.

God will give you all the mercies, all the strength, and all the wisdom AS YOU FACE things in this life. He tells us over and over not to worry about tomorrow and have you ever wondered why? Well friend, it's because we can't handle what's going to happen tomorrow, but He can.

Trust me when I say that we don't want to know the future. If we knew how heavy it may be, we would lose all our hope that we would make it through. Rest in knowing today that you may not think you can do it (lift the cooler?) because it's so heavy... BUT GOD! He will give you everything you need right when you need it!

Needless to say I'll have a better plan next time so I don't potentially throw my back out!
