Lessons from the Pack: How Furry Friends Reflect God’s Family (Plus Upcoming Comedy Night!)

Ephesians 2:19

"So then you are no longer strangers and aliens [outsiders without rights of citizenship], but you are fellow citizens with the saints (God’s people), and are [members] of God’s household..."

Today's verse of hope is one that makes us all not just feel like family, but know that we are.

For many years, Lizzy Nichole has been caring for animals of all kinds. She has worked as a vet tech and a photographer, and today she serves as the Children's Director at River City Church in Palatka. But at home, she has a wonderful collection of furry friends that call her mom. Many of these animals came to her in distress, injured, and near the end. Just as Lizzy has compassion on these animals, God has compassion on us and doesn't leave us in our distress. He brings us into His family and showers us with love.

Knowing Lizzy, I thought she might have a great photo to share with us that connects to today's message. And she did! While the photo only shows a small portion of her fur babies, it makes the point perfectly.

When I asked her what she thought about today's verse of hope, this is what she had to say:

"All of my pets have always functioned as a 'pack.' Through the years, we have rescued and fostered other dogs, cats, opossums, rabbits, raccoons, squirrels, and even birds—and yet they were always welcoming with open arms.

Despite their size, comfort level, and even having the title of 'bird dog,' they have always shown love to other animals in need. It’s like they knew.

Their love and affection for every living thing has shown me a direct reflection of the heart of the Father. His intention was for us to welcome one another with open arms, no matter someone’s shape, size, color, past, or abilities. If we can love someone in spite of our differences, we already have the victory."

Speaking of welcoming everyone with open arms, we would love for you to join us for HOPE FM’s Comedy Night on September 26th, featuring Lizzy Nichole alongside a fantastic lineup of other comedians! One of the biggest reasons we host this night of laughter is to create a space where everyone in the body of Christ feels truly welcome and reminded that we are all part of the exact same family.
