New Music Friday: “Can’t Steal My Joy” by Josiah Queen & Brandon Lake

ree

Every once in a while, a song comes along that feels like a rally cry for the weary soul, a declaration of faith that pushes back the darkness with every beat. That’s exactly what “Can’t Steal My Joy” by Josiah Queen and Brandon Lake delivers. It’s gritty, honest, and deeply rooted in the kind of joy that doesn’t depend on circumstances, and that’s why we’re excited to add it to the Hope FM playlist this week.

This song isn’t about putting on a brave face or pretending everything’s fine. Instead, it’s about standing firm in the truth that joy isn’t something the world gives, and so it’s not something the world can take away. Josiah Queen and Brandon Lake bring a passionate, authentic sound that reminds us joy isn’t fragile; it’s fierce when it’s found in Christ.

One of the most moving moments in the song comes in this lyric:

“In the high highs, in the low lows, You fill my cup, You fill it up until it overflows, I remember, I'll keep holding on to hope, 'Cause you're the King of rolling stones.”

This line captures the heart of the Gospel in just a few phrases. It speaks to the reality of life, we all go through “high highs” and “low lows.” But in every season, God is steady. He doesn’t just give us enough to get by, He fills our cup until it overflows. That imagery echoes Psalm 23:5, where David declares, “You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” God doesn’t stop at enough; He pours out abundance, grace, strength, peace, and yes, joy, even when we feel empty.

The lyric also reminds us to remember, a vital part of our faith walk. In the middle of hardship, it’s easy to forget who God is and what He’s already done. But this song encourages us to hold on to hope by remembering the faithfulness of the One we trust.

And then comes the final line: “'Cause you're the King of rolling stones.” It’s poetic and powerful. It immediately calls to mind the stone rolled away from Jesus’ tomb, a bold reminder that the God we serve is alive, victorious, and still moving the impossible. He doesn’t just comfort us in our struggles; He changes everything. He brings dead things back to life. He rolls away stones.

So wherever you find yourself this week, in the highs, the lows, or somewhere in between, let this song be your reminder: nothing can steal your joy when it’s rooted in Jesus. Not fear. Not failure. Not the weight of the world. Because the tomb is still empty, and the King of rolling stones is still on the move.

Tune in to Hope FM to hear “Can’t Steal My Joy” and let its message sink deep, reminding you that your joy is secure, your hope is alive, and your cup is overflowing.
