Ryan Stevenson’s new song “Preach” is a heartfelt prayer put to music. It captures what so many of us feel when we realize that following Jesus is more than just talking about Him, it is living for Him. The lyrics are raw and honest, admitting that while it is easy to talk about grace, love, forgiveness, and peace, it is not always easy to live them out.
One of the most powerful moments comes when he sings, “Lord, I need your strength to live what I believe. I want my life to preach.” That line hits deep because it points to something we all long for. Our faith is not meant to stay as words but to overflow into action, into compassion, into the way we treat people every single day.
The chorus reminds us, “Every breath, every beat, I want my life to preach. When I’m strong, when I’m weak, through valley lows and mountain highs, every moment testifies.” What a beautiful reminder that our lives are always saying something about what we believe. Even in the hard times, maybe especially in the hard times, we have the chance to show the world the hope of Jesus.
This message reflects James 1:22, which says, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” Living out the gospel is not about perfection, it is about letting God shape our hearts so that our actions match our faith.
“Preach” is a call to live with humility, compassion, and purpose. It is not about having the perfect words or polished answers, but about allowing God to work through us so that every breath and every beat of our lives points to Him.
