These past few weeks have challenged our Country to its core—as a Veteran, I have observed, and tried to keep an objective perspective; and as a Christian, I tried to keep a biblical objective of faith, love and HOPE! Having participated in countless elections and most importantly—having seen and heard about what happens elsewhere in the world, we need to step back, take inventory and move forward as Americans, and above all, Christians!
As a Veteran, I have had the privilege to serve alongside men and women of virtually every race, religion, unstated political belief and yes, even gender identity/sexual orientation, in places where most Americans will never see, nor understand what living in the United States of America truly affords them. We did what our Country asked of us, as directed by five different Commanders-in-Chief (during my tenure), professionally with dignity and respect for each other and to those we were ordered to assist. I proudly served under all. Those of us who have worn the uniform understand all too well the struggles and sacrifices that military service requires, and what a great responsibility it is. From defending our country in times of peril to helping on the home front in times of peace, being a steadfast protector of our great nation and her freedoms, rights and privileges is truly the highest honor a Veteran could give. All Veterans ask in return is that you exercise those rights and respect the rights of others!
I call on ALL Americans—to exercise their right to participate in the electoral process and VOTE! Show dignity and respect to all (regardless of any identifying characteristic). As Christians–let the greatest two guide your hearts and minds 1) love the Lord thy God with all your heart, mind and soul, and 2) love one another! Our children and the World are watching—let’s show them why we are Proud to be Americans! Better yet–Let the love of Christians convey to the world what grace and mercy is all about!
